Today Amazon announced an initiative to get its Kindle product into the US school system, a tactic that has already been successful for main competitors Apple.
The service will be called Whispercast and will allow schools to manage an array of Kindle devices from one location.
The service will grant administrators the ability to set up student accounts and atune specific devices for grades or learning levels. It will also allow the administrators to restrict the reach of the devices to block out inappropriate websites/apps/software.
“We want to make it as easy as possible for everyone to own a Kindle device. Any time we can make that easier, we do that,” said Jay Marine, vice president of Kindle product management. “And we have a particular mission to increase reading, especially among kids.”
