Sony have confirmed today that important security information has been released online that will make it substantially easier for users to play pirated games on the machine.
The hackers behind the information release call themselves “The Three Musketeers” and the group have stated that they decided to release the LVO decryption keys because a group of Chinese hackers who had already obtained the codes planned on charging a fee to use them.
In statement on Hacker News, the group stated, “You can be sure that if it wouldn’t have been for this leak, this key would never have seen the light of day, only the fear of our work being used to make money out of it has forced said us to release this now.”
In previous cases of jailbreaking attempts, PS3 have quickly been able to counter the hacking via firmware releases and sources close to the company suggest this release is now worse than previous hacks.
